How do I clean my Lapbox?

FAQ Dropdown Arrow

To clean your Lapbox you need two clean cloths, one rinsed in clean water and one dry. You should not use any solvents.

  1. Unplug your Lapbox from the power source.

  2. Remove the Lapbox lid, and wipe down the black plate with the damp cloth.

  3. If your model is G2 (black): Gently remove the black plate, using the clips on either side, and place this carefully aside.

If your model is G1 (grey/metallic): Use the Allen key (supplied) to remove the two screws that secure the plate, then lift off the plate, and place this aside carefully.

  4. Clean inside the Lapbox using the damp cloth, making sure in particular that the glass at the bottom is cleaned of any spills. Use the second cloth to dry the inside of the Lapbox.

  5. Replace the plate and the lid.

For further information, see the Care videos for both the G2 and G1 models.

When should I use the HiSCC cartridge?

FAQ Dropdown Arrow

The Mastatest HiSCC cartridge is designed for testing cows where there are no identifiable clinical signs of clinical mastitis but there is reason to believe there may be an underlying 'subclinical' infection in the udder.

This is typically identified using the individual cow SCC counts.

Evidence suggests that an SCC of under 100,000 cells/mL is considered normal, and representative of normal physiological processes.

Where a cow has an SCC of over 200,000 cells/mL, this probably indicates the presence of subclinical mastitis in one or more quarters. Some veterinarians recommend using different thresholds, so discuss with them the right approach.

Diagnostic testing of cows with an elevated SCC count will identify the cause of the elevated SCC level, and guide what treatment or management options may be useful. In particular, identifying cows where raised SCC is due to Staph. aureus is important, as these animals can have a major impact on the overall herd health.
